Welcome to the February edition of the CEdMA-Europe Members' Monthly Newsletter, which is sent to CEdMA Europe members and to European colleagues of CEdMA USA members.

As usual, you will learn about updates to our forthcoming programme of events, and there is the collection of recent articles whose content is consistent with the important topics that you our members voted to cover in our recent Conferences.

The News section contains four articles with the whole month's news, three of which contain individually dated news items.

In Reviews and Current Trends, there are 21 reports, including seven reviews of 2010 or predictions of 2011.

The Training Manager/Director Development articles follow the usual theme of providing useful support to you, so the 10 articles cover a range of management topics.

As usual, the Learning Methods and Media articles are many and varied (nine this time), including four on social learning, two on e-learning, and three on virtual classroom.

Case Studies and Projects has three articles, all about a specific company.

Measuring Education Value has one item on measuring social media.

There are three articles in Training Professional Topics, on various aspects of presentations.

In Skills Gap/Technical Certification there is one article on Caveon.

Finally, in Special Interest Groups, there are three reports from January.

Workshop 20 January, "Using Social Media in Education"


 

 

 

 

The winter CEdMA Europe half-day Workshop took place on Thu 20 January 1300-1700 UK time at IBM Hursley.

Barry Sampson, Co-Founder and Director of Onlignment
led a lively discussion on
Social Media in the Learning Organisation with input from the floor ensuring that the session lasted nearly two hours.

Then, Chris Rauch, Senior Director, Worldwide Training & Certification Delivery, salesforce.com described How to deliver a globally collaborative training community using social media and web based applications and showed many of the features and functions used.
 
30 people from 19 companies attended while a further 17 had to cancel either through pressure of work or illness.

Upcoming Events

 

 

 

 


We have two events planned, the spring workshop in March and the spring conference in May.

The workshop will be on 17 March at SAP Bedfont when the focus will be on e-learning. The agenda is being finalised in the next couple of weeks and invitations will be sent out then.

Owing to a hiatus of other important events in late April, the board has decided to delay the conference until later in May. Also, in response to input from attendees, we are switching to a Wed and Thu event to preserve everyone's weekend. The provisional dates are 18-19 May and the theme voted by members is "Education Sales, Marketing and Business Development". Once the programme and venue are decided, invitations will be sent to member main contacts in early March.

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. 

When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour. 
Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.' 

After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. 

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. 

When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?' 'It was Bob the next door neighbour,' she replies. 'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'
